It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Singapore and the 10th anniversary SEMICON Singapore exposition.
The past decade has seen tremendous growth of the semiconductor industry in Singapore and throughout Southeast Asia. From its early leadership in test, assembly and packaging services, the region has grown into one of the world’s most important centers for semiconductor production. Even though our industry has struggled over the past year and a half, weathering the worst downturn in our history, the long-term prospects for growth and success in the region have remained strong.
This strength is reflected in the continued growth and success of SEMICON Singapore. What began as a regional show focused on final manufacturing has evolved into a world-class SEMICON exposition covering a full spectrum of manufacturing technologies. Although the show continues to highlight the technologies of test, assembly and packaging, SEMICON Singapore has increasingly attracted exhibitors from the wafer processing segment of the industry, testifying to the growth and development of the region’s chip manufacturing capabilities.
SEMICON Singapore serves the growing industry by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and the fostering of relationships that enable the expansion of business opportunities and advance semiconductor manufacturing technology. I encourage you to take part in everything SEMICON Singapore has to offer, including the SEMI Technical Symposium, the Sixth Annual TAP Automation and Integration Conference and our many other programs and activities.
I am excited by the opportunities and the challenges that lie ahead. Our industry has always been one of innovation; even through the tough times of our industry’s cycles, we have always emerged stronger. As we look forward to the next ten years, I am certain that the industry in Singapore and throughout Southeast Asia will continue to prosper and maintain the innovative spirit that has made it so successful.
