Taiwan's government is actively promoting developments in the "Five Trusted Industry Sectors": semiconductors, AI, military, security and surveillance, and next-generation communications. As the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) points out, the strategic significance of these industries helps to strengthen Taiwan's position in the global supply chain, enhance competitiveness across various industrial sectors, create high-paying jobs, and improve national security and resilience.
Premier Jung-tai Cho stresses that the government is promoting US investments in these five trusted sectors to foster prosperity between Taiwan and the US. Building upon foundations in the US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade, Taiwan's government is accelerating efforts to align with international standards on intellectual property rights, labor rights, environmental protection, trade facilitation, regulatory transparency, and digital trade, with the aim of improving convenience, fairness, and transparency in business transactions.
Taiwan and the US have a shared consensus on strengthening economic security, and thus Taiwan will strengthen cooperation with the US on export controls, investment reviews, and the prevention of illicit transshipment, which will be crucial in the joint efforts to establish a trustworthy and resilient "non-red" supply chain.
The MOEA also announced plans to launch a forum for global semiconductor supply chain partners, focusing on Taiwan's interests and its strengths in the semiconductor industry as a core strategy. This forum will involve democratic allies such as the US, Japan, the EU, the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands to consolidate Taiwan's irreplaceable key position in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
To deepen economic and trade ties with democratic partners, the MOEA will encourage Taiwanese companies to participate in the SelectUSA Investment Summit, and commission the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to organize exhibitions in the US and other countries' locations to promote Taiwan's image abroad. Taiwan will also collaborate with global partners to build secure and resilient supply chains, engage in international economic organizations, and actively pursue memberships in regional trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
