Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) announced on July 29, 2025, that it had successfully completed the renewal and reissuance of Google certificates for government and commercial websites on July 25. All customer websites that agreed to update their certificates have now completed the reissuance process, with validity periods lasting up to one year, ensuring normal website operation and secure user connections.
This large-scale certificate renewal was primarily in response to Google Chrome's policy change, which will stop trusting TLS website certificates issued by CHT starting August 1. In light of this significant policy shift, CHT strengthened its internal management mechanisms and promptly introduced measures such as extending certificate validity periods to minimize the impact on clients.
In addition, CHT stated that it is continuing to enhance its certificate operations framework. This includes implementing third-party audit systems to ensure transparency and compliance, and improving automated certificate renewal processes to boost efficiency, aiming to restore the trust list by the end of March 2026.
CHT stressed that the company will continue monitoring international certificate policy developments to provide more stable services for its clients.
