Ant Group is recruiting developers for AI-equipped humanoid robots as it prepares to enter the field. According to Chinese media outlets Jiemian News and South China Morning Post, Shanghai Ant (Mayi) Lingbo Technology, an Ant Group subsidiary, is hiring humanoid robot systems and application software engineers, hardware architecture engineers, motion control software engineers, and finished machine/hardware specialists, for job positions in Shanghai and Hangzhou.
Citing insider sources, a report from Chinastarmarket notes that the humanoid robot team will be based primarily in Shanghai, and development will not just be confined to technology but will include plans for hardware as well.
As disclosed by Ant Group, Shanghai Ant Lingbo Technology was registered in late 2024 to focus on embodied intelligence technologies and product development. According to data from Cailianpress, Ant Lingbo has a registered capital of CNY100 million (approx. US$13.8 million) and is indirectly wholly owned by Ant Group, with Xing Zhu serving as its legal representative, director, and manager.
Prior to this, Ant Group has rarely ventured into hardware development. However, the company began preparing for this in 2024 with a series of investments, including investing in Xinghaitu (Suzhou) Artificial Intelligence Technology, whose main product is the R1 wheeled humanoid robot.
