Chunghwa Precision Test Tech (CHPT), a provider of IC test interface solutions, expects a slower-than-expected sales rebound in the third quarter. The second half will still outperform the first, nevertheless, according to the Taiwan-based company.

Test interface demand for AI and automotive chips has increased, but demand for smartphone chips has remained stagnant; as a result, the company's third-quarter operations are expected to recover more slowly than anticipated, CHPT indicated.

A gradual rise in demand for AI and automotive applications will still allow CHPT's second-half sales to surpass its first-half sales. The company already saw a pick-up in test probe card orders for AI and HPC chips in June, boosting its monthly revenue to the highest so far this year.

CHPT reported June revenue of NT$269 million (US$8.64 million), an increase of 12.8% sequentially but a decrease of as much as 35% compared to the same month in 2022. The IC test interface specialist saw its second-quarter revenue total NT$744 million, up 10.2% on quarter but down 37.2% from the same period in 2022.

CHPT's cumulative 2023 revenue through June came to NT$1.42 billion, down 29.5% on year.
