Probe card demand for 3D ICs is promising, according to IC testing interface solution provider Chunghwa Precision Test Tech (CHPT), which also claimed it will be one of the new suppliers capable of providing related solutions.

CHPT president Scott Huang pointed out that the company is expected to receive at least 10% more orders from its IC design, foundry, and packaging and testing clients in 2022. Demand for its testing interface solutions for AP, RF, HPC and display driver IC (DDI) will likely grow as well, he said.

Despite being affected by the US-China trade war and losing orders for smartphone application processors (AP) from the US, CHPT did not see a clear decline in its 2021 revenues, Huang continued. He added that the company has begun developing advanced probe cards for solid-state drive (SSD) ICs recently and that the technology will be essential for IC test solution providers to secure future orders, especially in the HPC area.

Industry sources also suggested that CHPT has continued to secure testing interface solutions orders for notebook processors from the US and that the company has decided to temporarily stop offering AP testing services to US companies. The sources added that CHPT has been collaborating with other Taiwanese IC testing providers such as WinWay Technology and Keystone Microtech though the companies also share a competitive relationship.
