Lead times at TI still long, sources say

Industry sources have expressed doubts about Texas Instruments' less optimistic outlook for the third quarter, given the still prolonged lead times at the analog IC vendor.

TI has given its sales outlook for the third quarter, expressing concerns about pandemic-driven demand could be short-lived, which has disappointed market watchers.

Delivery lead times at TI have shown no signs of cutback, however, according to industry sources in Taiwan. The analog IC vendor is also likely to raise its chip prices later in the third quarter to reflect its tight capacity and ever-increasing costs, the sources said.

TI is already among the few analog chip suppliers, which have maintained their chip quotes, the sources indicated. Despite its less optimistic revenue forecast for the third quarter, TI is poised to make upward adjustments to its chip prices starting later this quarter, the sources said.

Nevertheless, TI's customers pay attention to whether the chip vendor will be able to fulfill their orders on schedule, rather than its planned price hikes, according to the sources.
