Light guide plate supplier Global Lighting Technologies (GLT) reportedly will kick off its shipments of light guide plates for illuminated keyboards on Apple's new-generation miniLED-backlit MacBook Pro series products in the third quarter of 2021, according to industry sources.
The sources indicated that Apple is likely to release new 14- and 16-inch miniLED-backlit MacBook Pro devices in the latter half of 2021.
GLT is also developing light guide plates for illuminated keyboards on miniLED-backlit devices to be launched by Apple in 2022, the sources said.
GLT declined to comment on specific orders or clients.
But the firm disclosed that it has set aside capex of NT$450 million (US$16.2 million) for 2021, plus an extra R&D budget of NT$250 million. It will focus on developing products and solutions for IT, large-size display, consumer electronics and wearable applications.
It has reported revenues of NT$969 million for April, down 9.5% sequentially but up 5% on year. Year-to-date revenues totaled NT$3.64 billion, increasing 58.2% from a year earlier.
