Flash device controller IC company Silicon Motion Technology held a groundbreaking ceremony on February 24 for its new headquarters in northern Taiwan.
Silicon Motion disclosed a total of NT$4 billion (US$143.7 million) will be spent on the establishment of its new headquarters in Hsinchu, which is scheduled to complete in 2024.
Silicon Motion also has plans to operate an R&D and testing lab at the new facility aiming to enhance design services for its offerings including SSD controllers, and controllers for eMMC and UFS mobile storage devices.
Silicon Motion expressed optimism about its sales outlook through 2023, when revenue is forecast to top US$1 billion. The company previously provided a guidance of 20-30% revenue increase for 2021.
Silicon Motion generated revenue of US$539.5 million in 2020, up 17% on year, with gross margin reaching 49.2%. "We are seeing strong, broad-based OEM demand and design activities for our SSD and eMMC+UFS controllers and expect this momentum to carry over to 2022," Silicon Motion president and CEO Wallace Kou noted previously.
