Taiwan-based GlobalWafers, the world's third-largest silicon wafer supplier, has reported consolidated revenues increased 5.5% sequentially to a record high of NT$5.28 billion (US$172.1 million).
GlobalWafers' cumulative 2018 revenues through October came to NT$48.72 billion, rising 29.2% on year.
GlobalWafers chairperson Doris Hsu said previously that the company will continue to run its 8- and 12-inch silicon wafer manufacturing lines at full capacity in 2019. However, GlobalWafers has recently seen its customers show mixed demand for 6-inch and smaller-size wafers, according to Hsu.
According to SEMI, silicon wafer area shipments worldwide reached their highest levels for the third consecutive quarter in the third quarter of 2018. Silicon wafer area shipments totaled 3.25 billion square inches in the third quarter, up about 3% sequentially and 8.6% compared to the same period in 2017.
