Tainergy Tech to expand solar cell capacity in Vietnam

Crystalline silicon solar cell maker Tainergy Tech will expand annual production capacity at its factory in Vietnam from 400MWp currently to 600MWp at the end of 2016, according to the company.

Production at the factory is mainly for export to the US market. Tainergy said. Viewing that the factory has obtained orders from the US with shipments scheduled through the end of 2016, it is necessary to expand capacity, Tainergy indicated.

In addition, Tainergy will introduce a PERC (passivated emitter and rear cell) process, with the first production line for PERC polycrystalline silicon solar cells to come online at its factory in northern Taiwan in the second quarter of 2016, the company said.

Since it is relatively difficult to attain stable yield rates for PERC and equipment costs are higher, Tainergy will set up additional PERC production lines in northern Taiwan and one in eastern China if operations at the first line are smooth, Tainergy indicated. Tainergy said it aims to set up annual PERC production capacity of 300MWp at each of the two factories.
