ODMs eye gaming notebook orders

, Taipei

Seeing competition growing fierce in the gaming notebook market, notebook ODMs have been aggressively looking to land related orders from brand vendors. Compal Electronics is the manufacturer of Dell's Alienware series gaming notebooks, while Clevo has acquired gaming notebook orders from China-based Haier and Hasee as well as Europe-based Medion.

Because of the competition, brand vendors have been strictly controlling their component costs in order to keep competitive pricing.

Lenovo and Razer's partnership is expected to create pressure for existing brand vendors such as Dell, Asustek Computer, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Acer as well as affecting the orders with the two brand vendors' ODM partners BYD and Gigabyte Technology.

In addition to Alienware branded products for the high-end segment, Dell has recently launched its Inspiron 7000-series designed specifically for the mid-range and entry-level segments.

For Clevo, in addition to orders from brand vendor clients, the ODM reportedly has also received some procurement orders from Latin America, but Clevo declined to comment on its orders.

However, Clevo expects its notebook shipments to grow 10% on year in 2016.
