Semiconductor equipment and materials distributors Scientech and Topco Scientific have reported sequential decreases in July consolidated revenues at 18% and 0.7%, respectively.
Topco generated revenues of NT$1.51 billion (US$47.5 million) in July 2015, down 9.3% on year. Revenues totaled NT$10.96 billion for the first seven months of 2015, rising 5.6% from a year ago.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) efforts to ramp up the capacity of its 16nm FinFET process helped drive shipments of silicon wafers and photoresists at Topco, according to market watchers. Topco is expected to enjoy revenue growth of about 10% sequentially in the third quarter of 2015, said the watchers.
Topco posted revenues of NT$4.53 billion in the second quarter of 2015, down 8.1% sequentially and 4.3% on year. Gross margin for the quarter, however, climbed to 12.6%, the highest in seven quarters.
Scientech generated revenues of NT$273 million in July 2015, down 18% on month but up 52.9% on year. The company's cumulative 2015 revenues through July came to NT$1.6 billion, rising 16.6% from a year earlier.
Scientech specializes in the distribution of equipment and materials for suppliers in semiconductor, flat panel display, LED and other high-tech related industries. The company also supplies its in-house developed and produced chip-making equipment to customers, and has started recognizing sales from the product line since 2015.
