Chunghwa Telecom reaches 2.34 million 4G users in 1 year

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) saw 4G subscribers increase to 2.34 million, accounting for 37.1-37.7% of the total in Taiwan, on May 28, the anniversary of it kicking off 4G operations, according to company president Shih Mu-piao.

CHT will add 4,500 4G base stations to total of 12,000 by the end of 2015, which will expand its 4G network to cover 99% of Taiwan's population, Shih said.

CHT expects the total bandwidth of its 4G band units to be fully utilized in two years and so will participate in the open bid to release 2,600MHz bands by the National Communications Commission in fourth-quarter 2015, and aims to acquire 20MHz of bandwidth, Shih indicated.
