Suppliers in the notebook component supply chain in Taiwan plan to raise shipment ratios of high-end components and parts in order to boost their profitability in 2015, according to sources in the supply chain.
The component suppliers are adopting the new strategy to cope with the latest production trend in the notebook industry, in which brand vendors have shifted focus to high-end products such as 2-in-1 devices and gaming notebooks, and also to entry-level Chromebooks and Windows notebooks.
However, component suppliers indicated that shipments of high-end models by notebook vendors are likely to account for a higher portion in 2015, and therefore production of parts and components will be also trending upward.
For example, shipments of 2-in-1 models are likely to surge 50% to 13 million units in 2015. The production of hinges for 2-in-1 notebooks will generate more revenues and earnings as well, said the suppliers.
Brand vendors, including Acer, Asustek Computer, Lenovo and Dell all plan to launch more high-end models such as gaming notebooks, high definition and ultra-thin models to beef up profits, noted the suppliers, adding that these models need high-end chassis, hinges and thermal modules.
