Power supply maker and energy management solution provider Delta Electronics has unveiled an own-brand industrial robot, SCARA (selective compliance assembly robot arm), marking a step further in its R&D of industrial intelligent automation, according to company chairman Yancey Hai.
Delta has used about 40 DRS40L series SCARA units on a trial basis at its factory in northern Taiwan and another in eastern China, with trial use showing that such industrial robots can reduce production cycle time and thereby increase output by up to nearly three times the level based on manual operation, Hai said.
Delta plans to install 300-500 SCARA units at its factories in Taiwan and China in 2105, Hai noted. Including shipments to outside users, Delta expects to produce over 1,000 SCARA units in 2015 and the production will increase to 2,000 units in 2016.
While many makers have been developing and producing industrial robots, Delta has the advantages of lower cost due to internally-produced key components such as actuators, servo-motors and controllers as well as system integration capability for customized production, Hai indicated.
Delta will produce industrial robots in Taiwan initially and then set up production lines at its factory in eastern China when demand increases, Hai said. Factories set up by Taiwan-based OEMs/ODMs in Taiwan and China will be target users of industrial robots, Hai indicated.
