Taiwan-based TFT-LCD panel makers have received significantly increasing orders for 7-, 8- and 10-inch TN and IPS panels for use in tablets, according to supply chain sources.
Tablet vendors are preparing for increased tablet demand in the second quarter of 2013 and are currently bumping up panel orders to make sure they are not short of supply during the time period.
Panel makers such as Innolux Corporation and AU Optronics (AUO) as a result are running at nearly full production capacity to meet the vendors' demand and are likely to continue seeing strong orders from the vendors throughout the second quarter, as the vendors have already begun preparing for expected demand in the third quarter of the year as well, said the sources.
The sources added that the panel makers have recently seen increased orders for smartphone panels largely from China-based handset vendors.
