Large-size touch screen panel makers to see increased orders in 4Q12

Large-sized touch screen panel makers such as TPK expect to see increased orders in the fourth quarter with the release of Windows 8, new tablet PCs and various notebooks, according to upstream industry sources.

TPK has stated that it has secured 75% of touch screen panel orders for ultrabooks. Sources said that industry estimates predict there will be as many as four million notebooks that feature touch screen technology in the second half of the year, meaning that TPK needs to have production capacity for producing three million touch screen panels, or an average of one million per month in the fourth quarter.

Sources also estimate that notebooks using touch screen panels have the potential of reaching 16 million units in 2013 and that tablet PCs will grow in sales as well, giving panel makers including TPK no shortage of opportunities to increase their shipments.

However, sources said increased orders also pose challenges for panel makers to increase their yield rates and production capacity in order to meet growing demand. Sources said that panel makers with the most advanced production equipment and highest yield rates will benefit the most.
