Contract chipmaker United Microelectronics (UMC) has reported revenues of NT$9.61 billion (US$321 million) for July 2012, up 3.5% on month and 9.1% on year.
UMC accumulated about NT$61 billion in revenues from January through July, showing a 6.3% decrease compared to the same period of 2011, however.
UMC has estimated slight sequential growth in both wafer shipments and ASPs during the third quarter. The company reported better-than-expected results for the second quarter.
In other news, having long been the world's second-largest pure-play foundry, UMC was unseated by Globalfoundries in the first quarter of 2012, according to a recent IC Insights report.
Globalfoundries was quoted as saying in previous reports that the worldwide foundry market would see a major change among top suppliers for the next three to five years. The US firm also claimed it would overtake UMC as the world's second-biggest pure-play foundry in 2012.
