Germany incentive cut dissolves price increases hoped for by solar firms

, Taipei

Germany has announced new incentive cuts will be initiated in March 9, 2012. The industry expected such measures to be taken in April 1, 2012, but never expected the date being moved up as early as the beginning of March. Solar firms in Greater China have been preparing to see a cut in orders. But plans to increase prices in March have been dissolved.

The earlier effective date of the incentive cuts is to reduce the surge of installations and purchases before the original date of April 1, 2012. The local supply chain has only a small time-frame to react to the measures. The cuts will be around 20-30%.

Industry sources noted that Germany-based solar firms have been expressing their dissatisfaction to the government. In addition, Taiwan-based solar firms have been cooperating closely with Europe-based solar firms. The new policy is expected to have a strong impact on Taiwan-based firms.
