Protective component maker Polytronics Technology has revealed that its SMD polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) resistors have been adopted by smartphone vendors, for use in handset-use lithium batteries. It did not disclose any client names.
Polytronics indicated that orders for USB 3.0 applications have risen to offset the demand slowdown from the notebook and desktop sectors. Sales for July and August remained at a high level, the company said.
Polytronics expects shipments of its new PPTC products for smartphones to help sustain its revenue growth.
Industry sources speculated PTTC has cut into the supply chains of Apple and HTC.
Polytronics will discuss its new product deployment at the company's upcoming investors conference on September 28.
