Cando, a subsidiary of AU Optronics (AUO), is scheduled to start shipping 9.7-inch touch sensors for Apple's iPad from its newly reformed 4.5G production line in September-October 2010.

Overall output of the newly reformed 4.5G plant will be mainly for iPad touch sensors with a monthly capacity of almost one million units.

Monthly capacity of the 4.5G line is 70,000 glass substrates, and each substrate can cut 16 units of 9.7-inch iPad touch sensors, which gives about one million units per month.

Cando declined to comment regarding its shipments to Apple.

The company noted that the 4.5G line will start volume production of several products with sizes ranging from 10- to 12-inch, mainly for medium-size capacitive touch panels for tablet PCs.

Cando indicated that overall operation in the third quarter is expected to remain flat compared to the second quarter, but may see growth in the fourth quarter depending on its clients' shipments.
