Corning and Oerlikon develops 11.9% efficient silicon-tandem PV cell

Press release; Willie Teng, DIGITIMES Asia

Corning and Oerlikon Solar have announced that they have achieved a record-breaking 11.9% stabilized conversion in a silicon-tandem, research-size photovoltaic (PV) cell. Results were confirmed by the United States National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

The newly developed PV research cell combines the light-trapping capabilities of Corning's specialty glass and Oerlikon's proprietary Micromorph technology, utilizing a zinc oxide low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) front contact, the companies said.
