Taiwan-based carrier Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) on March 3 announced the launch of the Huawei E5830, a portable pocket-size 3.5G base station or access point allowing simultaneous wireless access to the Internet by up to five hand-held devices, at a retail price of NT$990 (US$30.9) bundled with a 30-month contract with fixed monthly charge of NT$775 without limits to surfing volume.
The Huawei E5830, produced by China-based Huawei Technologies, can be used to connect handsets, notebook PCs, i-Pod touch, PSP and any Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the Internet, FET said. The Huawei E5830 supports HSUPA 5.76Mbps/HSDPA 7.2Mbps access to the Internet, weighs only 90 grams and is equipped with a battery for 4-hour continuous use, FET indicated.
