Japan chip equipment orders continue sequential growth in August 2009, says SEAJ

Japan-based semiconductor equipment manufacturers posted about 55.46 billion yen (US$608 million) in orders in August 2009 (three-month average basis), and a book-to-bill ratio of 1.44, according to the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ).

The three-month average of worldwide bookings rose 26.6% from 43.79 billion yen in July, but still experienced a 36.1% drop from 86.79 billion yen in August 2008.

The three-month average of worldwide billings in August reached 38.57 billion yen, representing a 17.6% increase from the prior month but a 52.3% decline from 80.91 billion yen a year ago, SEAJ said.

The book-to-bill ratio of 1.44 for August 2009 means that 144 yen worth of new orders was received for every 100 yen of product billed for the month.
