Network equipment makers Gemtek Technology and Sercomm both are positive about the business outlook for the second quarter amid increasing demand from the telecom sector and channel operators, according to sources at the companies.
Increasing shipments of IP STBs (set-top boxes), WiMAX products and WLAN modules will pace sales growth in the second quarter, said Kevin Yang, managing director of Gemtek.
Gemtek has posted consolidated revenues of NT$1.6 billion (US$47.2 million) for March, up 2.6% sequentially but down 6.6% on year. For the first quarter of 2009, revenues totaled NT$4.68 billion, up 11% on year.
Sercomm has posted revenues of NT$532 million for March, up 12% from the previous month. However, the first-quarter revenues of NT$1.59 billion represented a drop of 23% from the previous quarter, higher than the company's projection of a 15-20% sequential decline as some clients postponed shipments to the second quarter, noted company sources.
