The Taiwan government on February 26 approved the draft Regulation on Commercial Email Spam proposed by the National Communications Commission (NCC).
The proposed regulations would place senders of commercial email spam subject to a fine of NT$500-2,000 (US$15-59) per message, according to the NCC.
Senders will be allowed to send out one message with clear instructions for the recipient to opt-into receiving further messages, the NCC indicated. Senders should not send further messages if the recipient does not reply, the NCC emphasized. The regulations will cover spam sent from domestic sources, but not those from abroad, the NCC pointed out.
The draft regulations are expected to be enacted soon, NCC indicated.
