Most IC design houses in Taiwan have indicated that their sales in May were weak with prospects to remain slow in June and unclear in July due to relatively weak demand from the handset, PC and consumer segments.
With the exception of Realtek Semiconductor which saw its shipments remained high in May due to carry-over orders from April, most other PC related IC vendors, including ITE Tech, Richtek Technology, Advanced Analog Technology, Alcor Micro, Phison Electronics and Ene Technology, will record lower than expected revenues in May, according to sources at the makers.
LCD controller IC maker Raydium Semiconductor has said that its revenues continued to grow in May. But other LCD controller makers such as Novatek, Himax Technologies, Orise Tech and Sitronix are expected to report slow sales due to slack demand for LCD panels and declining orders for white-box handsets in China, the sources indicated.
With regard to the consumer IC segment, nearly all vendors, including Sonix Technology, Alpha Microelectronics, Holtek Semiconductor, Elan Microelectronics, Sunplus Technology and Pixart Imaging, saw their May revenues remain flat, or edge up slightly, from the previous month, said the sources.
So far, most makers are unsure whether orders will begin to pick up as expected in the peak season starting July.
