Applied Materials acquires HCT to extend its solar reach

Applied Materials announced that it has agreed to acquire HCT Shaping Systems, a privately-held company based in Switzerland. HCT is a maker of wire saws used principally in manufacturing crystalline silicon (c-Si) substrates for the solar industry.
