HTC Corp. convened its annual shareholders' meeting on June 20, 2025, during which Chairwoman Cher Wang highlighted the company's recent agreement with Alphabet. The deal, reached in the first quarter of 2025, grants Alphabet non-exclusive access to a segment of HTC's extended reality (XR) research and development team and related intellectual property.
Strategic pivot towards emerging technologies
Wang described the agreement as a pivotal moment for HTC, driven by strategic investments in artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality, and beyond 5G (B5G) communications. She emphasized that with fresh capital and a renewed focus on innovation, HTC is pursuing long-term growth through a strategy centered on connectivity, intelligence, and openness.
Beyond the transaction, HTC plans to deepen collaboration with Alphabet and further strengthen its role in the global XR ecosystem. Wang emphasized that the company has evolved from a hardware-centric business into a full-spectrum technology provider, now offering products, platforms, content, and services.
Viverse platform drives XR expansion
A key pillar in this transformation is HTC's Viverse platform, which it calls the world's first open 3D content ecosystem. Viverse recently upgraded its capabilities to support WebXR game engines, improving compatibility with gaming content and expanding its application in vertical XR markets. According to HTC, the platform has already been used to host immersive exhibitions across industries, highlighting the commercial promise of XR technologies.
Enterprise connectivity through G REIGNS
In next-generation communications, HTC is also expanding through its AIoT and private network business unit, G REIGNS. The subsidiary has partnered with companies such as Nissan Motor Co. and several smart factories to deploy enterprise private networks and edge computing applications.
In a bid to further its presence in next-generation telecom infrastructure, HTC is co-developing an AI-powered communications platform with global partners based on Nvidia's AI-RAN technology. The platform is expected to position HTC as a player in the emerging AI-driven telecom sector.
Wang stated that AI is the core driver of HTC's next phase of growth, noting that AI technologies have already been integrated across HTC's operations and research activities. She added that the integration has enabled the company to accelerate innovation and increase its global competitiveness.
