United Microelectronics Corp.(UMC), a Taiwan-based IC foundry manufacturing company, confirmed on Feb 14 that one employee of its Suzhou subsidiary Hejian Technology Corp had been infected with COVID, and production at the subsidiary was suspended for necessary inspections.

Liu Chi-tung, the SVP and CFO of UMC, issued a press release saying that the company expects no major influence on company finances from the incident.

"The monthly production value of Hejian contributes to 5% of the consolidated revenues of UMC," according to the release. "We reiterated the sales outlook for Q1 remains unchanged, while average selling price goes up 5%, with a gross margin of around 40% for the quarter, and shipping volume stays flat."

Hejian will resume production after obtaining approval from the local authorities after the inspections, said UMC.

UMC last week reported an unaudited NT$20.47 billion (US$7.34 billion) in net sales for the month of January 2022, up 31.83% on-year.
