Lite-On IT conservative about 3Q12 operation

Ocean Chen, Taipei

Lite-On IT, which makes optical disc drives (ODDs), holds conservative business outlook and expects revenues and shipments in third-quarter 2012 to remain unchanged at best from the second quarter, according to the company.

Orders on hand are for shipments scheduled for about one month ahead, shorter than 2-3 months for orders received in the second quarter, Lite-On IT pointed out.

Shipments of slim-type ODDs in the second quarter grew sequentially by more than 30%, and second-quarter profitability from SSDs (solid-state drives) hiked on quarter by nearly 600%, Lite-On IT indicated.

Lite-On IT posted consolidated revenues of NT$14.26 billion (US$478 million), net profit of NT$700 million and net earnings per share (EPS) of NT$0.71 for the second quarter of 2012, resulting in consolidated revenues of NT$26.31 billion, net profit of NT$1.18 billion and net EPS of NT$1.22 for the first half of the year.
