Epson saw its front projector shipments to Taiwan increase 13% in 2008 to remain the number-one vendor in the local market for the fifth consecutive year, according to the company.
Shipments for 2008 were 26,168 units, up from 23,082 units in 2007, Epson noted. Epson was number one in the fourth quarter of 2008 with a 26% share of the Taiwan market, and 28.1% for the whole year, according to IDC data.
In the commercial market, Epson accounted for 24% mainly due to increased demand in the educational segment, Epson noted, adding that shipments of education-use projectors increased 12.4% on year in 2008.
With prices for Blu-ray Disc (BD) players continuing to drop, Epson's shipments of 1080p projector models increased 147% to 354 units in 2008 from 143 units in 2007, the company said.
