As global manufacturers diversify their production bases, Vietnam and India are among the preferred choices. DIGITIMES Research analyst Chou Yen warns that the electricity supply in Vietnam is more stable than in India. In 2020, Vietnam saw an average of 356 minutes without power that year, compared to 6,369 minutes in India. In addition, power outages occurred an average of 3.12 times in 2020 in Vietnam, compared to 157 times in India.

India lowers EV import duty to attract Tesla investments

According to a statement of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, the country will reduce import EV import taxes from 70-100% to 15% if the EV importers meet certain requirements, which include minimum investments of US$500 million or INR41.5 billion. Manufacturers will have three years to establish production facilities, commence commercial operations, and achieve 50% Domestic Value Addition (DVA) within five years at most.

Foxconn subsidiary reportedly in talks to set up facility in India

The Economic Times quoted sources saying that Rayprus, a Foxconn Group subsidiary engaged in the R&D, manufacturing, and sales of camera modules, is talking with Foxconn about setting up a manufacturing facility near Foxconn park near the airport in Bengaluru. Sources said the companies did not disclose detailed information like the size of the investment, but the talks progressed smoothly.
