Recently, a Meta executive for the South and Southeast Asia region stated that Vietnam has the potential to become one of the hubs for the AI industry due to the country's open policies and entrepreneurial spirit.

According to a report from NhanDan.vn, Rafael Frankel, Director of Public Policy for Southeast & South Asia at Meta, stated at the "Vietnam Innovation Challenge 2024" event that Vietnam's economy has undergone significant transformation over the past 23 years. This is thanks to the Vietnamese people's dedication and the country's increasingly open policies, especially cooperation in the technical field with many countries, including the United States, and business sectors.

Rafael also emphasized the importance of maintaining open policies, believing the Vietnamese government should maintain its open attitude to attract global investors and tech companies. Additionally, Rafael reiterated Meta's promise to support Vietnamese corporations in promoting innovation and advancing AI and semiconductor technology.

Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam, stated that to catch up with global AI development, the Vietnamese government has implemented measures over the years, including launching a nation-level AI strategy extending to 2030. This strategy has enabled Vietnam to rank 55th globally in the "Government AI Readiness Index" in 2022.

Vietnam already has several companies such as FPT, Viettel AI, VNPT AI, VIN AI, and others that are actively conducting research and developing applications related to AI. Phung Viet Thang, a senior executive from Intel Vietnam, believes the Vietnamese government must formulate clear-cut industry development strategies to promote AI development across various industries.

Rafael stated that Meta plans to launch AI products and services in several Asia-Pacific regions, including Vietnam, by 2024. The company has drawn up an AI development roadmap and intends to introduce AI products on the WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram platforms in Asia-Pacific. Meta believes that these tools will support the development and growth of Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises in promoting innovation.
