Bloomberg quoted sources saying that Foxconn is beginning the production of the iPhone 15 in its facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, with the delivery timeline only weeks after that of Foxconn's factories in China. Besides Foxconn, Pegatron and a Wistron plant acquired by Tata will join the ranks of assembling iPhone 15 in India.
The delivery time gap between Foxconn's Chinese and Indian facilities will be much shorter for iPhone 15 production than iPhone 14 series, which lagged behind China by 6–9 months.
Still, Bloomberg reported that many components required for making the iPhone 15, which is expected to be unveiled on September 12, have to be imported.
According to Counterpoint, shipments of made-in-India iPhones rose 65% year-on-year in 2022, with the value of locally-made iPhones growing by 162% for the same period. Still, China accounted for the majority of global iPhones.
Foxconn has been speeding up its production capacity and portfolio expansion in India, with PTI quoting sources saying that Foxconn's subsidiary Foxconn Interconnect Technology will begin producing AirPods in its new plant in Telangana. Foxconn has nine campuses in India with 36 factories.
