Viewing that the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T2 and DSC-G1 digital cameras are equipped with 4GB and 2GB, respectively, of internal NAND flash memory, Taiwan-based ODM/OEMs of digital cameras generally feel that such built-in memory capacities are unlikely to become mainstream because of the additional costs. The built-in storage capacities of other digital cameras, including Sony's other models, mostly range from 15MB to 32MB, the sources indicated. Sony's self-developed Memory Stick (MS) series are more expensive than other types of memory cards such as SD and CF, the sources pointed out, adding that Sony's large-capacity internal memory may be a marketing strategy for market segmentation. ODM/OEM quotes for 8-megapixel digital cameras have dropped to US$70-80 per unit under intense competition and such a price level prohibits inclusion of 2-4GB of internal memory, the sources pointed out.
