Delta Electronics has announced a net profit of NT$11.66 billion (US$366.78 million) for 2009, rising 13.71% on year, although revenues last year dropped 12% to NT$125.5 billion.
The company said profit increased due to cost-cutting efforts and a rise of gross margin to 21%.
Company CEO Yancey Hai said Delta is seeing no labor shortage at its China plants in Wujiang and Dongguan, as it already gave all of its China workers a pay rise before Lunar New Year.
As of early February, Delta's China work force amounted to 36,000 employees, and will have added over 12,000 by the end of March, Hai said, adding labor cost will increase 30%.
The company expects component shortage to be solved in April, the CEO said.
Hai said that the company is supplying over 70% of the adapters for Apple's computers and expects Apple to become its top-three client in 2010.
Its notebook business is expected to increase about 10% in 2010, while the industrial automation business will have a 20% growth due to strong demand from the China market, as well as the India, South America and Middle East markets. Growth for the display solution business will be driven by large projectors priced US$7,000-8,000, Hai said.
The CEO noted that Delta has no plans to enter the pico projector market, whose outlook remains unclear.
In terms of 3D TV, Delta will focus on naked-eye 3D technology, Hai said.
Hai indicated that Delta's capex will increase from 2009's NT$4.5-5 billion as the company plans to automatize its Chenzhou plant in China and start developing its own-brand business targeting Taiwan and China markets.
