NAND flash oversupply provides memory module makers more freedom in platform adoption
Josephine Lien, Taipei; Esther Lam, DIGITIMES [Thursday 23 March 2006]

Taiwan memory module makers indicated that current oversupply of NAND flash in the market has provided them with more freedom to adopt various types of memory card platforms.

In the past, NAND flash giant Samsung Electronics was able to aggressively lobby its customers not to adopt its NAND flash chips for use in SD cards, but to only use Samsung-made NAND flash in MultiMediaCard (MMC) cards.

With the market currently suffering a cyclical downturn amid serious oversupply, memory module makers have more freedom to adopt other card platforms, such as SD.
