Taiwan-based wireless chipset maker Ralink Technology expects its shipment of WLAN chipsets to increase 66.7% on-year to 14 million units in 2005, according to company sources.
Ralink’s shipments will account for more than a 10% share of global shipments of 120-130 million WLAN chipsets projected for this year, the sources indicated.
The global WLAN chipset market is expected to grow 40-50% on-year to reach 170-180 million units in 2006, with increasing demand for 802.11b/g chipsets and MIMO (multi-in multi-out) chipsets as the driving factors, the sources noted.
