Asustek releases a new Blu-ray drive
Press release, September 7; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Friday 7 September 2007]

Asustek Computer has released the next generation high-speed DVD rewriter – the Asustek BC-1205PT Blu-ray drive. The drive is capable of writing data at 12X DVD+/- write, 4X DVD+/-R (dual layer) and 5X DVD-RAM speeds. The drive utilizes a SATA interface and can provide users with five times faster data transmission rates compared to DMA33 standards, said Asustek.

Blu-ray technology allows users to utilize Blu-ray discs to store large amounts of data; 25GB for a single layer and 50GB for a dual layer disc. With such data capacities, users will have equal to 23 hours of standard definition TV or 6 hours of HD content on a single disc. Additionally, Blu-ray technology provides data transmission speed of 4500 Kb/sec – three times the speed of normal DVD transmission, according to Asustek.

The drive also features exclusive technologies from Asustek including DDSS2 (Double Dynamic Suspension System 2) to minimize vibration caused by the spindle motor and resonance between components, Liquid Crystal Tilt to provide enhanced pick up head accuracy during recording and playback of discs with uneven curvature and thickness and Smart Laser Driver for stable recording quality, highlighted the company.
