Nintendo will launch the Wii and related peripheral hardware and software products in the Taiwan market sometime in the second quarter of 2008 and has assigned two sales agents, Hakuyu and Weblink International, according to Nintendo's Taiwan subsidiary Nintendo Phuten.
Kakuyu is the existing Taiwan sales agent for Nintendo, while Weblink, a channel distributor belonging to the Acer Group, is just starting its business relationship with the console maker.
The Wii has been widely available for sale in Taiwan for a while through the gray market and so Nintendo may set a relatively low initial retail price to promote sales, industry watchers speculated.
The deal with Nintendo marks the start of Weblink's stepping into digital entertainment products, according to the company. Weblink has a network of nearly 6,000 sales agents at retail outlets around Taiwan at present and established a new business unit responsible for digital entertainment products in November 2007, the company noted.
