Hewlett-Packard (HP) on April 16 introduced Edgeline Technology, its self-developed ink-based printing technology, and additionally unveiled two Edgeline MFP (multi-function peripheral or printer) models, CM8050 and CM8060, in Beijing, China.
Compared with conventional color inkjet printers which have print heads moving across paper, Edgeline color printers can print faster at 40-50ppm (pages per minute) through moving papers for receiving color ink jetted from as many as 10,560 nozzles of a inkjet base, according to HP vice president Gary Cutler for Edgeline Technologies.
Many cases in demand for color printing appear that only a small portion of text and/or corporate logos really need to be printed in color while the other portion can be printed in monochrome (black & white), Cutler indicated. While conventional color printers are unable to separate monochrome printing from color printing, Edgeline Technology features color management capable of printing a selected small portion in color at a lower total cost equivalent to levels for monochrome printing, Cutler emphasized.
