Sony Mobile Communications are developing smartphones to be launched in 2015 and will adopt metal-alloy chassis for high-end models, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The smartphones with metal-alloy chassis will be produced by Taiwan-based Foxconn Electronics at its factory in northern China, with the metal-alloy chassis likely to be supplied by Foxconn Technology, a member of the Foxconn Group, the sources said.

Many existing Sony Mobile smartphone models use plastic chassis with metal-alloy edges made by Catcher Technology, the sources noted.

In addition to Sony Mobile, Samsung Electronics will launch metal-alloy chassis smartphones, the Galaxy Alpha-series, in the third quarter of 2014, the sources said.
