As 2-in-1 device sales in Taiwan continue to stay strong, channel retailers have been placing extra orders with brand vendors to satisfy demand, according to sources from channel retailers.
Currently, 10-inch 2-in-1 devices priced between NT$11,000-12,000 (US$360-393) have the highest demand, and several channel retailers are set to mainly push these products during their spring promotions and Softex 2014, hosted from April 14-21. The sources pointed out that their orders for 2-in-1 devices account for about 30-40% of total orders for the show.
Back-to-school demand, which usually starts in February, may occur in the second quarter instead as Microsoft and Intel have both been providing subsidies to help lower 2-in-1 device end prices, the sources said.
High-end 2-in-1 devices are also seeing their prices drop rapidly with 13.3-inch model average prices approaching US$600 and 10-inch models US$349-399, the sources noted.
However, the sources said that 2-in-1 devices are unlikely to help the overall PC market grow as sales are replacing those for traditional notebooks.
