Upstream suppliers' shipments of G1F touch panel module technology are expected to pick up in the first quarter of 2013 followed by a large increase in the second quarter of the year due to an expected release of Samsung Electronic's Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet, according to industry sources.
The Samsung tablet, which will come equipped with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of memory, will have G1F touch panel modules provided mostly from Taiwan-based Young Fast Optoelectronics and J Touch. Samsung Display will provide the device's LCD panels, added the sources.
Samsung hopes that shipments for the 8-inch device will surpass the one million mark per month upon its release, noted the sources. There are concerns in the market whether G1F touch panel modules will be in ample supply as of the second quarter, but the sources said providers of the technology have improved yields, and that Young Fast will allocate more of its shipment proportion to the device.
The sources also said Young Fast is optimistic about providing 5- to 6-inch as well as 7-inch G1F touch screen module technology during 2013 and also hopes to provide the technology for use in more tablets sized 8-inch and above.
