Foxconn Electronics is reportedly working on a 70-inch LCD TV that is expected to be released in April 2013 in Taiwan followed by a later release in other markets, according to industry sources.
Company chairman Terry Gou is reportedly becoming more interested in the large-size TV segment, as the company's 60-inch LCD TV, which uses LCD TV panels from Sharp, saw positive responses in the US, Taiwan and China, said the sources.
The sources added that Sharp and Foxconn are also cutting 70- and 80-inch LCD TV panels on their jointly invested 10G line in Japan, and are expected to release a 70-inch TV model by the beginning of second-quarter 2013 when TV demand is expected to pick up.
Foxconn is likely to release an Ultra HD (3840 by 2160) TV in the second half of 2013 but the size has yet to be determined, noted the sources.
Additionally, market rumors are spreading stating that Foxconn may expand its TV assembly production by constructing up to an additional ten lines, with each one estimated to cost NT$100 million (US$3.4 million). Foxconn has declined to comment but company sources said the company indeed has plans to expand its TV assembly production in order to meet growing TV demand in China but is unlikely to do so to such a large extent.
