Susie Pan, Taipei; Yvonne Yu, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 12 January 2011]

Wintek has announced that the company spent NT$404 million (US$13.85 million) to acquire land around its Taichung Huanzhong plant for future capacity expansion.

It is understood that Wintek's recent capacity expansion mainly focuses on touch panels, and the Huanzhong plant also a touch panel production plant, hence the newly acquired land is expected to be used for front-end capacitive touch panel production.

Regarding its original capacity expansion plan to add 2.5 million medium-size touch panels per month in the second half of 2011, Wintek noted that the expansion is mainly focused on its plant in the Taichung Industrial Park and is going as planned.

With a capacity of three million units from its Dongguan plant in China and the expanding capacity at the Taichung plants, Wintek's monthly medium-size touch panel capacity is expected to reach 5.5 million units at the end of 2011.
