Nvidia seeing popularity grow in tablet PC market
Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 14 December 2010]

Nvidia's Tegra 2 platform has recently become a new spotlight in the tablet PC market as most of the tablet PC vendors including Acer, Asustek Computer, Toshiba and Samsung Electronics as well as several regional brand vendors in China, Germany and the UK, are all set to launch Tegra 2-based models, according to sources from notebook players.

Affected by the strong sales of Apple iPad, consumers have started to learn to accept non-Wintel platform and are helping demand for platforms such as Android/ARM to grow.

Tegra 2's strong graphics performance and supports for Adobe Flash and 3D games are the drivers for brand vendors and tablet PC makers to decide to adopt the platform; meanwhile, Nvidia is also offering price discounts in the hopes to boost up its market momentum, the sources noted.

China-based white-box players have also adopted Tegra 2 for their tablet PC models and are set to launch the related models in the first quarter of 2011, the sources added.

The sources also forecast that Tegra 2-based models will have chance to account for 50% of ARM-based tablet PC shipments in 2011.
