Acer dual-core netbook will not hit the US and Taiwan markets until September

Acer's netbook with Intel's latest dual-core Atom N550 processor is not expected to hit the US and Taiwan markets until September, as vendors are conservative about netbook sales amid the popularity of the Apple iPad, according to sources from retail channels.

Acer's dual-core netbook, the 10.1-inch Aspire One D255 is already set for launch in the US in early September with Taiwan scheduled for the end of the month at a price below NT$14,000 (US$437.43).

Despite players such as Acer already set up to launch their dual-core netbooks, there are still several other players including Asustek Computer who have not yet decided their launch schedules. Some will wait until October or November to launch their models.

Asustek has already revealed its dual-core netbook, the Eee PC 1015PEM with four color options, while Lenovo and Gigabyte Technology have also both showcased dual-core models.

Intel commented that Atom N550 based netbooks from OEMs will hit the market starting for now through end of the year.
